Opportunities for Artists

Burb Contemporary was started by two artists with a vision of an alternative art space that is easily accessible for artists to stage a solo exhibition outside of the pressures and requirements often associated with commercial galleries. We are open to a variety of media, including performance based work. The Burb’s context within a middle-class suburb with an enduring history of red-lining, also offers a wellspring of content for site specific performances and installations. Burb hosts an opening-night reception for each exhibition in the intimate, shaded courtyard of the gallery space entrance, and artists may choose to host a critique event of their work, or hold an artist talk, depending upon their needs. Though no stipend is available at this time, use of the gallery space is offered at no cost to the artists we chose to host. Please note that for applicants who are not local to the Sacramento, California area, all shipping and handling cost for art works to and from the gallery are the responsibility of the artist. Lastly, we are not a commercial gallery and don’t manage the sale of any artworks included in our exhibitions, but will happily pass along any inquiries to resident artist.

Our Space

Our gallery has about 260 square feet of potential show space, with 10 foot high ceilings. The two large walls are perfect for projection or 2D work, and the entry door can be closed for light or sound sensitive projects. Please see the diagram on the right for the gallery’s measurements. The dashed line represents the galleries entrance, and the shaded rectangle represents a table which can be moved for additional space.
